Learn what way is comfortable for you.
i.e personally i play barre chords barring all the string with my first finger. Although many players use there thumb on the bottom string.
Also when learning scales practice using hammer ons and pull offs. Instead of picking every note, its much more fluid.

Learn one new solo/whole song/ or as much as you can per day by ear, everyone sucks at first but stick with it- the music really is it’s own reward.

When putting in new pick ups take a picture of the wires before taking the old ones out, so you can see where to put them back afterwards - as i found out the hard way.

Practice using backing tracks is better choice than metronome. Tempo and Harmony, gives you more brain work.
When playing how you hold your pick is important. You only want to have about 0.5cm of the pick showing
When you practise imagine you are playing to a live audience- that way when you do play infront of an audiennce it may well not be quite so daunting, as you’ve already rehearsed it..(not mine-from Vai, but it does seem to work)
